The autoMACS™ Separator and the autoMACS Pro Separator are benchtop automated magnetic cell sorters for the isolation of virtually any cell type from any species based on the renowned MACS® Technology. autoMACS magnetic cell sorting has been introduced in 1999 and is a proven standardized procedure for reliable results. The established autoMACS Separator is the instrument of choice if fast, automated cell separations are desired. The new autoMACS Pro Separator has been specifically designed for automated handling of multiple samples. State-of-the-art sensor technology allows safe operation and monitoring of the instrument´s status.
The autoMACS Pro Separator combines all the benefits of the autoMACS Separator with novel features such as the processing of up to six samples and sensor-controlled operation. Thus, hands-on time during cell separation is minimized. Color-coded illumination of buffer bottles allows monitoring of the instrument status. The instrument is operated via touchscreen and intuitive screen menus. Three different tube racks allow the use of sample volumes from 0.2 mL up to 50 mL.
The autoMACS Pro Separator has been developed for automated magnetic cell sorting of multiple samples under standardized conditions. Like the autoMACS Separator, it is compatible with more than 200 MACS Cell Separation Reagents for easy and fast isolation of virtually any cell type from any species. Up to 107 cells per second can be sorted very efficiently. Ten preset cell separation programs allow positive selection and depletion of cells, even if the antigen used for selection is expressed at low levels. Furthermore, rare cells, such as CD133+ stem and progenitor cells, can be efficiently separated.
Besides all the proven preset cell separation programs of the autoMACS Separator, the autoMACS Pro Separator features a novel program that allows cell sorting directly from whole blood volumes larger than 3 mL.
The complete compatibility of MACS Technology with flow cytometry further allows to use the autoMACS Pro Separator as a pre-sorter for speeding up flow cytometric cell sorting. For maximum convenience, standard MACS Buffers manufactured under tightly controlled conditions are available.

The autoMACS Separator is a benchtop instrument for high-speed automated cell sorting. Employing the MACS Technology, the autoMACS Separator is designed for positive selection as well as depletion of magnetically labeled cells. The autoMACS Separator is operated with preset separation programs, thus, allowing optimization of cell sorting approaches according to cell abundance and the intensity of marker expression. The separated cells are immediately ready for experiments, cell analysis, or further subset sorting. Automated system cleaning allows convenient maintenance. The autoMACS Separator fits in a standard laminar flow hood or safety cabinet.
The autoMACS Separator has been developed for automated magnetic cell sorting under standardized conditions. It is compatible with more than 200 MACS Cell Separation Reagents for easy and fast isolation of virtually any cell type from any species. Up to 2×108 pure target cells can be isolated within minutes. Frequent cells, such as T cells, as well as rare cells, such as CD133+ stem and progenitor cells, can be efficiently separated: cells with frequencies as low as 1 in 106 total cells can be enriched to high purity. Preset programs allow positive selection and depletion of cells, even if the antigen used for selection is expressed at low levels.
Additionally, the autoMACS Separator allows cell sorting of leukocyte subsets directly from whole blood (volumes up to 3 mL).
The complete compatibility of MACS Technology with flow cytometry further allows to apply the autoMACS Separator as a pre-sorter for speeding up flow cytometric cell sorting. For maximum convenience, standard MACS Buffers manufactured under tightly controlled conditions are available.
